Are these trucks MASH-compliant and inspected?

Every TMA truck is verified MASH-compliant and mechanically inspected by Scissortail fleet technicians before it's photographed and listed. We disclose known issues up front.

Do you ship trucks nationwide?

Yes. Scissortail ships TMA trucks, attenuator trucks, arrow-board trucks, and message-board trucks anywhere in the United States. Call for a delivery quote based on the destination.

How much does a TMA truck cost?

Pricing varies by chassis class, attenuator, mileage, year, and condition. Scissortail does not sell anything older than ten years. Used MASH-compliant TMA trucks in our inventory typically start in the mid $50,000s and run up to roughly $115,000 for late-model units on medium-duty chassis. New OEM-spec builds on a Ford F-650, Ram 5500, or International chassis typically run well into the six figures depending on attenuator, lighting, and upfit. Every Scissortail listing publishes the price. Call (940) 202-9797 for current pricing or a written quote.

What's the difference between a TMA truck, a crash truck, and an impact protection vehicle?

Same category of work-zone safety vehicle, three names. A TMA truck is named for the truck-mounted attenuator on its rear. A crash truck is the common field name. An impact protection vehicle (IPV) is the engineering term and usually denotes a heavier-duty build. State DOT and municipal work-zone specs use the three interchangeably and almost always require MASH compliance.

How long until a TMA truck is delivered?

In-stock trucks typically ship in 5 to 15 business days depending on destination and carrier availability. Custom builds on a new chassis usually take 8 to 16 weeks from confirmed specs. Rentals dispatch faster when units are available. Call (940) 202-9797 for current lead times.

What states do you ship to?

All 50 U.S. states. Common destinations include Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, the Carolinas, the Midwest, and the Northeast. Call for a delivery quote based on the destination.

Buyer's Guide

How To Buy A
TMA Truck.

A TMA truck has to do two jobs: drive a chassis around your fleet for years, and absorb impact safely behind a work zone when it matters. Here is what Scissortail tells buyers to check, in order, before they commit.

1. Verify the attenuator is MASH-compliant

TxDOT and most municipal work-zone specs require MASH-tested attenuators on qualifying projects. Confirm the model, test report, and current certification date. Scissortail lists MASH compliance on every traffic-control vehicle up front.

2. Match the truck to the project

TMA trucks for highway lane-closure shadowing. Arrow-board trucks for lane shifts and mobile operations. Message-board trucks for advance warning, detours, and incident response. Impact protection vehicles for the highest-exposure work zones. Pick the configuration before the chassis brand.

3. Diesel or gas?

Diesel pulls more and lasts longer under load. It's the right call for daily heavy use, long routes, or interstate shadowing. Gas costs less to buy, less to maintain, and is easier to find parts for. It's the right call for in-town crews under 30,000 miles a year. Pick by usage, not price.

4. 4WD or 2WD?

If the truck will ever leave pavement (rural utility, oilfield, ranch road, construction approach, snow country), 4WD is non-negotiable. Pure pavement routes can run 2WD and save fuel.

5. Read the frame, not just the body

Walk the truck. Look under it. Check the frame for rust, weld repairs, or bent crossmembers. A clean body over a tired frame is a future expense. Scissortail discloses frame condition on every listing.

6. Verify the upfit was done right

Attenuators, arrow boards, message boards, and supporting lighting have to be mounted to OEM and MASH spec. Look for clean wiring, proper grounding, factory-style fasteners, and current certification paperwork. A bad upfit on a good chassis still fails inspection.

7. Match mileage to expected remaining life

A well-maintained diesel medium-duty can run 400,000–700,000 miles. A gas ¾-ton work truck typically goes 200,000–300,000 before major service. Compare odometer to that ceiling, not to a passenger-car number, when judging value.

8. Plan upfit & service before you buy

The cheapest truck is the one that stays on the road. Line up DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, tires, and TMA recertification before delivery, all handled by our sister operation, Scissortail Fleet Services. Most buyers schedule a first PM at delivery.

Beyond The Lot

One Stop For Fleet Operators.

Most of our truck buyers also lean on us for what comes next: keeping the truck on the road, outfitting it for work-zone duty, or maintaining the rest of the fleet.
